As many of you will know, NewStarts is able to provide emergency food for those who are facing financial crisis. As we move deeper into the cost of living crisis, like many other organisations providing emergency food, we have also seen the number of households seeking our help, double over the last two months. In the past, as an organisation, NewStarts was able to provide for households through the donations of food that we received from our many supporters, however as the need has risen that has become more and more difficult. During the pandemic we were able to sign up with a supermarket and order in large quantities through their wholesale scheme and we continue to do that, even so, the food bill for providing emergency food continues to grow, as we, as an organisation, face similar cost increases as everyone else. At the moment we are providing 80 households a week with food, including tinned, packet and long-life items as well as fresh items, bread, eggs, fruit, vegetables, butter and cheese.
So, we have a few asks:
- If you can buy some extra items when you are shopping that would be great. They can be dropped off at either of our sites, Bromsgrove or New Frankley.
- If you are able, consider supporting our work, through a cash donation either as a one off or as monthly supporter
- If you run a business or work in an office, warehouse, surgery, anywhere really, consider housing one of our business foodbank collection boxes.
We look forward to hearing from you, we know our communities are great at supporting both us and each other.
