NewStarts is now looking for new Trustees who are passionate about Social Justice and wanting to make a difference. NewStarts is an innovative and dynamic Christian social enterprise project, based in Bromsgrove in North Worcestershire with a satellite site in New Frankley, Birmingham. We help people to overcome their challenges and disadvantages and we’re proud to do things differently in order to make a lasting impact: • We give away c60 tonnes of free furniture every year to recently re-housed, homeless people and those facing severe financial disadvantage. • We operate a business model which deliberately has a low ratio of paid staff (9) and a high ratio of volunteers, (50) most of whom are long term unemployed and/or challenged by mental health issues. • We sell low-cost and second-hand household goods to the general public, including sanitised and re-installed computer hardware, at an affordable price. We also operate a busy food bank and provide 1:1 IT courses. NewStarts serves a broad spectrum of communities across north Worcestershire and Birmingham. It’s been our privilege to see lives being turned around: ex-offenders becoming retail managers, long-term unemployed gaining full-time employment with the NHS, addictions being overcome, confidence and self-esteem being regained. People who once thought their usefulness was at an end, now sharing skills with others, having fun, smiling a lot and both giving and receiving banter! The current Board and Trustees of NewStarts are excited at the prospects for this work to grow and want to recruit new Trustees to bring a wider range of experience and business skills to the organisation. The Board meet formally four times a year and hold a strategy/planning day once a year.
