Being hungry is never nice

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely hate being hungry.  But imagine if that is your daily life.  Imagine if, for you, there is a daily decision as to whether to eat yourself or feed your children, or eat yourself or put the heating on.  Whilst it seems difficult to believe, for many in our society that is the choice they have to make every day. Here at NewStarts we have been running an emergency food service since we began and every year we will provide anywhere between 300 and 400 food parcels every year (although it looks like it will be more than that this year). This year we have also started working with local supermarkets and organisations  and have been able to provide fresh food to local people.   The crucial thing about food banks is that they rely heavily on donations from members of the public in order to keep operating, in fact a number of times this year we have had to put a call out to our loyal followers and supporters because we have got very low on stocks.

Like most emergency food providers we have a standard shopping list, which we have listed below. if when you are shopping you can consider buying an extra tin or packet then that would be great.  We have a drop-off point in Morrisons at Bromsgrove or you can drop into either of our sites at Bromsgrove, 1 Sherwood Road B60 3DR or New Frankley, 6 Arden Road, B45 0AJ.

Things that are great for our food parcels.
