We’ve been blown away at NewStarts by the generosity of our local community in helping us provide emergency food parcels and furniture donations for some of the most disadvantaged households in North Worcestershire and South West Birmingham.
Schools, churches, local businesses and individuals all continue to play their part, but one donor particularly stands out to us …
Emily is aged 10 and from Aston Fields Middle School and, as a result of the conversations she has at home, is very aware that there are people in the world less fortunate than her, including people in her locality.
She had been discussing with her parents how difficult it must be those families who simply don’t have the spare money to be able to buy little extras for their children, and how the kids might feel.
She recognised how sad they must feel and wanted to do something to help other children in Bromsgrove. So, she started saving her pocket money, spending it on purchasing food items to donate to the NewStarts food bank. Building on this, she now uses both pocket money and money she receives for her birthday/Christmas, to purchase items for the foodbank … and also money she earns through helping out each week at home with chores, such as cleaning the bathroom, hoovering, and walking the dog.
